Name dropping

I watched every minute of the Golden Globes last night so Monday’s Radio Free lunch will be songs that mention famous people.  Think “Steve Mcqueen”, “Celluloid Heroes” or “Jammin Me” by Tom Petty.  There are TONS to choose from.  I’ll probably be blogging later about some of the fashions from the show—but WTF happened to Glenn Close??  Why would she want to look like one of the Golden Girls??  She has a beautiful figure for someone her age—I think she could have worn something a little less matronly, right?

I don’t know. Don’t bother me. I’m still stunned and in love with by Ann Hathaway!

  2. Meghann

Agree with Walter above — cannot get over how stunning of a person/actress Anne Hathaway is. She’s my new girlcrush/life model…

For RFL today, I’d love to hear:

R.E.M “It’s the End of the World As We Know It” (of course!)

and perhaps “Brian Wilson” by the Barenaked Ladies?

AND, because I can never EVER hear enough Neil Young — would “Southern Man” work?

  3. Megan

How about “Hey Leonardo” by Blessid Union of Souls!

  4. Vanessa

    The Hurricane by Bob Dylan

  5. Maren

It doesn’t get played much but I still love (and try to sing along to but can’t keep up with) “We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Billy Joel. There is tons of name-dropping in that song!

    Hi there,
I agree with the Glenn Close outfit…what about JLo’s “shhh, Mama’s talking comment”…kill me now.

    Cheese:
    Baby Got Back:
it names Fonda and Flo Jo!

How about “Baby Got Back” by SirMixAlot? Driving the Honda playing workout tapes by Fonda. The two-time Oscar winner is an Atlanta resident.

Love your show, love your hair, hope you win! Happy New Year Mara!

  8. Jason

Be My Yoko Ono – The Barenaked Ladies

  9. Joe Miceli

So many choices you could do this topic all week. Tori Amos “Happy Phantom” mentions Judy Garland and Buddha, Beastie Boys “Posse in Effect” mentions Abe Vigoda!!!, Blues Traveler “Hook” mentions Rin Tin Tin and Anne Boleyn, Bowie “Jean Genie” Marilyn Monroe and Snow White.

  10. Jessie

how about, shawn mullings “rockabye” , he mentions bob seagar and sonny and cher.

  11. Barrie

    Wow… another Barrie, weird. :)

    Anyway, Mika- Grace Kelly?
    Bare Naked Ladies- One Week.

  12. Molly

Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder mentions lots of famous musicians.

  13. Jessie

weezer “buddy holly” mentions buddy holly and mary tyler moore

  14. Marena

Okay, irony: someone named ‘Maren’ has already suggested what I was coming on here for: Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire”. That’s really creepy. Doppleganger?

Also, “Get What You Give” is one of my favorite songs, so happy and upbeat and rocky, so sorry for Char! Please don’t stop playing it. Mwah!

  15. Sarah

I think you should play ‘Catch My Disease’ by Ben Lee. I love this song! Definitely puts me in a great mood with it’s “happy” beat!!

  16. Lynnie

Since I’m sure I’m too late to suggest songs, I’ll just dish the Globe clothes:

Forget Glen Close- what were Drew Barrymore & Renee Zellweger thinking when they left their houses. They made Glen look positively chic! Actually Drew’s dress was fine but her hair made her look about 45 years old. Yipes. And she’s adorable normally.

  17. Nathan

The theme for tomorrow could be unique vocals in honor of the beginning of the American Idol season, if it hasn’t been done before. My song suggestion would probably begin with “She Drives Me Crazy” by the Fine Young Cannibals. Good luck and thanks for keeping me sane.

  18. maradavis

Love that idea Nathan! You’re on. These comments rock. Keep them coming!!

  19. Meghann

I was going to suggest something along the lines of the Matchbox 20 song “Bright Lights” where Hollywood/Dream Following is a theme…?
