  1. Mara,
Hi! I am a regular Hello Stiletto event goer, but had to miss this one for a 4 yr old soccer practice. I am so glad you got to meet Ann Roth – she is so nice. After I met her, I invited her to display her shoes at the Sex and the City movie event that we had here at The Fox. She was also one of our judges for the shoe contest that evening.

Anyway – I am sorry that I didn’t make it to Fashion Cares, and your photo with Isaac makes me so jealous!

I was disappointed about notmaking it to the event last evening, but now I am disappointed that i missed the chance to meet you! Hopefully I’ll see you at one in the future. Have a great day!

    Best,
    Kris

Just a suggestion for future radio free lunch. How about pairs of songs that have very similar parts to them.

Just heard Sarah McLachlan’s newest single, “U Want Me 2″. I was very surprised that its intro sounds a lot like “Mad World” by Gary Jules.

Have not been in touch lately but I have been listening. Everyone should read the article on John McCain in the Oct 16 Rolling Stone. Being a part of the US military can also mean you are not qualified for any position of leadership.

  4. Cynthia Weisz

Mara, always the coolest girl I ever knew. WHat the heck are you up to? Where are you?

can’t wait to see madge witcha, mara d. ab

  6. BIG Howard fan myself! I knew we were sympatico!

  7. Will you please mention my friend Kurt Thomas who is local and plays gigs around town? He is down to the final 2 in a national CMT contest. He plays a little of everything like your radio staion (not just country which being on cmt might imply)!!!http://www.cmt.com/interact/music_city_madness/vote/

    Thanks for your consideration!

Suggestion for Monday, MLK Day, Radio Free Lunch: “Civil Liberties”. Here is a list of synonyms to help out.

Synonyms: God-given rights, civil liberties, constitutional rights, freedom, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedoms, freedoms of citizens, human rights, legal rights, natural rights, rights, rights of citizenship, unalienable rights

    Ideas:

Never Gonna Break My Faith by Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Bilge (from the movie “Bobby”)

    Stand Up – DMB

Livin’ in America – James Brown

Time Loves a Hero – Little Feat

    Stand – REM

Burning Down the House ;-) Talking Heads

    One – U2

    What do you think?

    I dig Radio Free Lunch!
    Stephen

Mara, how about RFL about losing weight? Everyone is on a diet these days. Songs with weight, diet, fat, large, indulge, etc. Can’ t think of any but there must be some!

  10. Emily G

Mara- I’ve got an idea for a future RFL although it may be too subjective. Songs you involuntarily dance to no matter where you are. For exp. I dare anyone not to do a little head bang in the middle of Bohemian Rhapsody even if your in the carpool lane at your sons preschool and are probably now considered the weird mom at the school.

  11. Lance

I am missing your vlogs Mara!

  12. kathy minter

    mara-
I am soooo with you on this. I look forward to the Westminster dog show every year. I was really bummed when I realized that I’d missed Eukaneuba recently, but THIS is the BEST. I’m not THAT much older than you(46)- and I’ve been a freak about this for YEARS… .

  13. Witt Garber

Today 2-12 is both Abe Lincoln and Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday (and my 49th) you should work that in for rfl ie Presidents of the USA Linkin Park George Clinton bring it

  14. OK Mara, I have to ask – Have I been black-listed from elibility for radio-free lunch requests!?

Ever since I dissed Alanis Morisette on your blog I’m wondering if I struck a nerve and am now being passed over for my song requests. ;-) Maybe I’m just being bested and out-requested by my listening and blogging compadres?

    Just curious!
    - Geoff

  15. Rebecca

How about the version of Gone Going with both Jack Johnson and the Black eyed peas for RFL….Have a nice day everybody!

  16. Emily P

    Hi Mara,

I love listening to RFL!!!! I listen everyday. My job is the most boring job on the planet and I look forward to RFL everyday. You recently have been having a mystery theme and O.M.G I LOVE It!!!
I get it right every single time i just don’t call in quick enough :( I hope you are doing one for Depeche Mode tickets…..Pretty please??? Anyway, Thanks for making my boring days a little better :)

    Hi Mara,

I was inspired by you to participate in the Great American Bake Sale. We are holding ours on Saturday, July 18th from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in front of Fleet Feet in Duluth. (Fleet Feet is helping me by advertising on their website and offering coupons to their store, if someone purchases baked items.) Since I am a runner, we are calling it “Runners Bake For A Cause.” We hope to raise at least $500, but more importantly, get the word out about this cause.

I enjoy baking so I look forward to the opportunity. Thanks for making me aware of the need.

Mara:Hi!!Hola From Peru!!!We meet at the Summer Festival; This is the name of the Restaurant “Fina Estampa” Authentic Peruvian Flavor ;the address is 1560 Indian Trail Lilburn Rd.Ste 104;the owner’s name is Jessica Ysla and the phone# 770-806-9666.They prepare a diversity of peruvian dishes and I will ask then when they prepare “Cuy Chactado” because they don’t make it all the time.By the way I’m Carlos Fernandez and my phone# is: 678-891-9041;please call me and keep in touch.Let me know about any good concert and maybe we can go to the Restaurant togeher because sometimes they have Specials when you go in group.Bye.

  19. Alexandra

Ok, you’re always asking for RFL suggestions. Here are mine:

Girls Only — a whole show with just women singers.

Names — The song has to mention a name (like “Roxanne”) or the title needs to be a name (like “Iris”).

Georgia Ties — Any artist who calls Georgia home or who started here.

Acoustic — For those of us who don’t get up Sundays ;-)

    Anyway, what about it?

  20. Hey Mara!

Someone told me they used to think the Kiss song went “I wanna rock and roll all night, and PART OF every day!” Which is really funny and stupid.

You’ve probably already done this one before a hundred times, but just in case…I think a fun Radio Free Lunch theme would be songs with lyrics that people misunderstand.

Maybe don’t focus on the most commonly misunderstood songs, but get people to give their own embarrassing examples like the one above.

Hope you have a great weekend!
    - Geoff

With the upcoming anniversary of the death of “The King” on Aug 16th, you should do a tribute to Elvis for RFL. Not just Elvis songs – something with a little more thinking to it. I call it “first and last” (which I think Wheel of Fortune does also) but you have to connect Elvis songs with Dave FM songs/artists.
    Examples:
Bob Dylan, Tangled Up In Blue Suede Shoes
    Teddy Bare Naked Ladies

  22. veronica

here a last song you can play for radio free lunch

i will follow you into the dark

  23. rebecca

    Mara,
Thank-you for playing Miss Sarajevo .What a song !

  24. Hi Mara – here’s my Radio Free Lunch idea… not sure if this is where to post it or not.

Anyway… Marianne Williamson is coming to town (Unity North on Oct 17) and she is an inspirational speaker.

She said (among other things) “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure….”

So – how about a Radio Free Lunch of “Inspirational Songs” – ones that get us going when we need that self-esteem kick or some perspective on life. Maybe: Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” Eagle’s “Take It Easy” … Gorillaz “Feel Good, Inc.”

    You get the picture.
    Thanks!
    -Kristin

    Radio Free Lunch –

    Beastie Boys – Sabotage

It may be a stretch but………..this lyric could be construed as football related………..
    “You’re All In My Face”

    Gayle listening in NYC………

  28. Gooch

    Mara,
Love your show. I listen as much as I can on my job- electrician.
I like the idea about the dog show, something along the lines of good dog names would work too.

  29. Emily

February is Dental Awareness month. (According to the flier in my kids school bags). So RFL idea: Songs that mention your mouth or things you do with your mouth.
    “Smile” uncle kracker
“mmm mmm mmm mmm” crash test dummies
    “lollipop” chordettes or lil wayne

  30. Megan

    for Today’s RFL,

“Don’t fear the reaper” who doesn’t picture Will Ferrell and his cowbell for this one?

Something by Rusted Root with all the fabulous and unique percussion instruments.

  31. vicki

    life is a highway

    Mara!
Just got back from New York and there was a band on the radio there called The Dirty Masons from Atlanta! The DJ was asking them about one of their songs called Thigh Highs and Boots and the girl said she wrote it with a DJ from Atlanta named Mara Davis in mind. Your rock & roll famous girl!

  34. Kat

I wondered if our drivers had something to do with our ranking as one of the rudest cities in the US.
