On Radio Free Lunch I try really hard to stay topical, interesting and in the moment of what people are thinking. Hearing the news of Osama Bin Laden being dead was shocking, exciting and history in the making. All morning yesterday I was trying to come up with a Radio Free Lunch around it and it just didn’t feel right. I can totally understand why people were celebrating—hey I was happy too! It just felt strange to do an hour of goofiness (Radio Free Lunch) around death (him and the innocent). Believe me, I tried to come up with so many different spins on the situation (songs that mention dead! revenge! justice!) but the images and horror of 9/11 kept running through my head. There is no doubt this was incredible news. Reading about what went into this mission, wow! But beating my chest with an “America is great!” on RFL just felt, well, not right. So, I stuck with my gut and went with what I originally planned. So there it is.
Spring And Stuff
Hello, hello! This weekend we spent enjoying the amazing weather. Charlie and I had some major bonding time which was great. We did everything from soccer to seeing his summer camp to lunch at Yeah! Burger and pretty much tooling around town. While we are on the topic of burgers, what is up with the burger craze? I know I’ve talked about this before but it seems like a new one opens every week. My new favorite is Grindhouse Killer Burgers on Piedmont. The veggie burger was off the charts amazing. Normally I favor the one at the Righteous Room but this one just killed me. I seriously haven’t stopped talking about it since I’ve tried it!! Nerd.

Gaga, Funny Girls, Charlie, Dove Awards
I’m still recovering from seeing Lady Gaga Monday night. It was a GREAT show but I didn’t think it was as good as the one 2 years ago at the Fox. Nevertheless, we had a ball. My co-worker Liz Bradley posted a fabulous picture gallery with some of my random iphotos from the night. You can see them here.

This shot is from Getty images and it’s part of the linked slide show. This guy was sorta channeling this look:

Earlier in the day I got to interview the fabulously funny Kristen Wiig and Wendi McClendon-Covey. Kristen is everything you want her to be–funny, nice and down to earth. Wendi was the same way, just as nice and funny as it gets. Her part in Bridesmaids is hilarious. I can’t wait for you to see the movie. Until then, here is the slideshow from the interview. We will post the video May 11th, Bridesmaids comes out May 13th.

Today we tried to snag an interview with Sherri Sheppard (the View, 30 Rock) as she was the host of the “Dove Awards” which were taped Wednesday night at the Fox Theater. We spotted some Christian celebs like Kim Fields (Tootie) Kevin Sorbo (Hercules), Reuben Studdard (American Idol winner) and other people who we didn’t know. The funniest part was people taking pics with football player Tim Tebow’s seat card. Um, OK. The good news is that we did in fact meet Sherri and she was nice as could be. Unfortunately she wouldn’t pose for a pic since she said she wasn’t in hair and make up. I get that—but she still looked SO great and was SOOOOOO nice. Love her on 30 Rock!! Ham!!! The Dove Awards are on GMC TV Sunday night at 7PM .

Speaking of looking great—now I need to go Kathie Lee on you. I just got Charlie’s school picture and I’m dying over it. Tell me this doesn’t look like a JC Penney ad?????? He’s so grown up!!!!!! Can’t even stand it……

Checking In
Here are my two favorite monsters Charlie and Fred from last week’s Spring Break:
Watching these two hang together is hilarious—and it makes it easier to be on vacation. Since Fred is 6 (on right) the two of them entertain each other all day. Because of this I was able to listen to tons of Howard Stern and read Tina Fey’s new book “Bossypants”. If you even remotely like Tina get this book, it’s so funny!!! It’s really a treat to sit down and read it.
This week we had a great time with Fitz And The Tantrums.

I absolutely LOVE this band and they were terrific live. The only problem was the venue because there were no seats and it was super crowded. This is mainly MY problem since I’m a cranky concert goer—but it was worth it. Speaking of concerts tomorrow night is GAGA and we are so excited!! We bought the tickets a year ago and I can’t believe it’s finally here. Before the show the great Kristin Wiig is coming to the Dave studios!! How cool is that??? She is promoting the new movie “Bridesmaids” which she wrote and stars in. Elizabeth and I saw it this week and it’s super cute. Perfect girls night out movie and several scenes with Jon Hamm in bed which pretty much closes the deal
Here’s the trailer:
It opens May 13th.

Counting Down To Vacation
It’s almost spring break (for Charlie at least) so I’ll be taking some time off from work. Before then it’s Dave-FM’s Earth Day Birthday at Verizon Wireless Ampitheater. Thankfully the weather is looking GREAT so it should be a fantastic night. Also, congrats to Richard Blais who won Top Chef!! He is such a cool guy and totally worked hard for it. Did you watch Andy Cohen’s after show?? OMG was it me or was Mike totally drunk? And Padma is NOT made for live TV. Yikes!! Have a great weekend—and if you don’t hear from me in a while it’s because I’ll be trying to have a digital cleanse (yeah right) during my week off
. We’ll see……

Dogs, Kids And Joan
Could this be any cuter? Looking at this photo makes me almost forget being woken up at the crack of dawn to a whining dog. Charlie just looooooooves Brogie and so do I (Mike, well, um, don’t tell him she’s on the couch
). What I love is that they are the same age growing up together. I’m already thinking about how different it’ll be 15 years from now and it’s making me a lil’ misty. Moving on.
The highlight of the weekend was definitely getting to meet JOAN RIVERS. She was so lovely, personable and warm. I just freaking love her. The show at Symphony Hall was hilarious and she is a true legend. It doesn’t look like she’s thrilled to be posing with me here but I promise, she was beyond nice.
Elizabeth and I both told by Joan to “stand up straight” for the picture. How much do I love that? It was more like meeting one of my moms friends than a legendary comedian. Just amazing!!

Bravo, Obsessions, etc.
I’ve been a little under the weather so I’ve been catching up with the DVR. My Bravo addiction continues with the Real Housewives. At first I wasn’t thrilled with the Miami version but it’s kinda grown into being great. I don’t know if it’s the train wreck women (duh) or the Miami landmarks. I grew up there so that part is pretty fun to watch. The Orange County girls are all over the place as usual. The Jesus couple (Alexis and husband) are my favorite to watch since we know they end up being broke. And nothing against Gretchen, but I could really do without Slade. I have to give it up for him though, he’s dated 3 of the OC Housewives since it’s been on (Jo and Lori).
“Bethenny Ever After” is just OK bordering on—I may have to break up with it. One minute she’s saying something hilarious, the next minute I’m cringing. We interviewed her today about her new book “A Place Of Yes” (worst title ever). From the little I read to prep –-yuck. If you even remotely care about the book wait about two years and get it at a discount store. I don’t see this being a super big hit—but what do I know. I’ll post this interview on Dave-FM later this week.
To keep this blog interesting and so you’ll keep coming back (all 9 of you, including my family, I thank you) here are a few things I’m excited for.
1-Fitz and the Tantums at the Loft, April 14th. I LOVE these guys and the reviews of their shows are insanely good. Dave is doing a Circle Of Friends with them so keep checking there to win.
2-Lady Gaga at Gwinett Center April 18th. We seriously bought our tickets A YEAR AGO. So not kidding. Can’t f****ing wait.
3-Adele at the Tabernacle in June. Adele is on FIRE and I’m so glad we met her earlier in her career. She is such a superstar and her new album 21 is pure genius.
4-Real Housewives Of NYC in April. Who knows why it was delayed but nevertheless, bring it Andy.
5-Joan Rivers at Symphony Hall this Friday night. I’m so hoping I can meet her as she is one of my absolute favorites. She’s one of the few people I’d change my facebook profile for (the others, Howard, Andy Cohen or Oprah).
6-The Sirius app: I’m more obsessed with the Howard Stern show every day. I went to 3 stores to find the latest Rolling Stone where he’s on the cover (NERD).

Yes, I Know
I’m a total slacker here. Since Facebook, Twitter and the Dave-FM website dominates my digital time the posts here are slower. My buddy Fishman harassed me yesterday to get something up here by texting “are you busy or just plain lazy”…ha ha Eric.

Getting a dog has made me anything but lazy. The great part about having Brogie is that I walk her at the crack of dawn every morning. This gives me time to listen to Howard Stern (on my i phone app) in great detail. It was on Stern where I heard one of my favorite authors/journalists/interviewers Neil Strauss. He was on to interview HS for the cover piece in Rolling Stone which is out Friday (counting the minutes).![]()
When Neil sat in the studio to observe Howard, he turned it around on him by interviewing Neil for over an hour. We talked about this and more—-listen to the interview here. I seriously could have talked to him for hours since he’s kind of my hero with his interviewing style. I asked him how to make the most out of a 10 minute interview since that’s usually what I get. He pointed out some great advice which I’ll definitely use.
I should have asked him how to handle someone who’s being a lil’ prickly like Old Spice Guy, Isaiah Mustafa. He called as part of a media tour to promote the TV show “Chuck” (does anyone watch this?). ANNNNYway when I asked him about him hooking up with Kathy Griffin he got very testy as in “can we please just talk about the show”. This was kind of a bummer because I’ve heard he’s a nice guy. He needs media coaching ASAP as there are more pleasant ways to avoid a question you don’t want to answer. And sorry Isaiah, this story about you and KG is EVERYWHERE—-she talked about you in great detail on Stern.
Tomorrow Jennifer Hudson is doing a private show for our sister station V103 so we’re going to check it out. I loooooove her and see her picture on weight watchers every day. Still keeping up with that but it’s getting harder. It’s always easy the first 3 months and then, well, food looks amazing again. Trying my best but whatever, at least my pants fit again. Hopefully seeing J Hud in person will inspire me! It’s a new daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Mars Needs Moms
What a crappy, rainy day today! We ventured out to see a media screening of “Mars Needs Moms”. Surprisingly, it was excellent. Great story, cool special effects and just the right length. My only complaint is that it was in 3D. Don’t get me wrong, the technology is amazing but I’m tired of EVERY animated movie being 3D. I’d just like a good old fashioned animated movie for a chance. This aside, it’s really a great film—here’s a preview:

Food Finds
Even though I’m still counting points (and losing! it’s a new day!) I can still splurge here and there. This includes my twice a week addiction of Yogli Mogli. O-M-G ever since this opened up around the corner I can’t stop going. What do they put in that stuff???

I finally got to go to “Super Pan” which is right next to Pura Vida. Hector Santiago does sandwiches there Tuesday through Friday and burritos on Saturday. This isn’t your average burrito, everything is so fresh, crispy and genuinely tastes like latin street food. You may remember Hector from Top Chef a few seasons ago, he’s a great guy.
We also tried Victory which is a new sandwich shop in Inman Park. This isn’t the most kid friendly place.
Them: ”the chef can’t just do turkey and bread” Us: ”Can we order the turkey, hold everything”? They obliged but weren’t thrilled about it. Normally I’d be annoyed but the sandwiches were absolutely delicious. They are small at $4 a piece so you may want to order two. This way you can try more than one. We’ll be back!!
